Tidy Cats dyed?

I was wondering if anybody knew if Tidy Cats brand litter (non-clumping) is dyed? It's a suspiciously uniform gray color. The reason I ask is because since switching to it about a month or so ago my kitties' beautiful white feet have turned gray. I can wash their feet - no problem - but if the litter is dyed, they might be ingesting dye when they clean their paws.

I don't think its dyed. I think its just the clay its made out of. We use a regular non clumping clay litter at work, and usually kittens and problem cats feel the need to dump their water, then walk in the litter and back out around the cage... leaving a thick grey mess.

I would think it isn't harmful for them to lick it off their paws... but I don't know for sure.

I'm just kinda suspicious because it's all exactly the same color, and with as much as they make, they can't possibly come up with enough clay all the same color. But I don't know...there might be another reason. Yes, it's dusty all right, but there are others that are much worse. I chose it because it was a reasonable compromise on all the factors.

It does seem strange that it is all the same - we have been using The Worlds Best for a while now and I know that that has some variations in colour - not so much within each bag but from bag to bag.

I just checked on the kittens litter (office kitten ) and I can see lots of differentshades of grey in his. Maybe time to change litter (something less dusty and not dyed!)

Update - I called the 800 number on the Tidy Cats bag and spoke to someone who seemed to know the answer to the question (that's not always the case, sometimes I get the feeling they're making it up as they go ), and he said there is no dye and the reason that it's all the same color is that all of their litter for the whole country comes from only three plants. There is variation in production from one plant to the next, but not from the same plant. And he didn't say, but knowing from how these things usually work, all the litter in one local area most likely always comes from the same plant.
