looking for a non-purebred that looks like a birman

we want to get a birman for a pet, but they are too expensive. They are selling them for around $550 in our area and we don't want to spend that much. We are in Iowa and was wondering if anyone in IA might have some non-purebred kittens for sale or to give away that look like a birman or are part birman. Thanks!

Hi there. I went to PetFinder and typed in a Des Moines zip code and put in that I wanted a birman and I came up with many responses. Unfortunately, they're quite a ways away from you. Mostly at cat rescues. Here are some of them.

There were more, but that gives you an idea of what's out there.

Google birman rescue and see what comes up or go on Petfinder under cat breeds and see what is available for adoption. Looks like there are 39 right now.. some are cross breed with siamese.

I would advice you to either check with a birman rescue or to save some money so you can buy a purebred. There are so many people out there just looking to find purebred buyers to fool. Rescues/shelters/breeders are the only "sources" of buying cats I recommend.

There are tons of colour pointed moggies in shelters if you are just in love with the coat.
