Petmate Water Fountain Filters

I just got the fountain a couple of months ago, so I just opened a pack of filters I bought separately. Oh my gosh, I can not seem to get the charcoal rinsed off, I have rinsed and rinsed, think it is rinsed turn it on and black flows. I did not have this problem at all with the filters that came with the fountain. Does anyone else have this problem and if so how long does it take to get the black rinsed away?

I don't have the fountain, but I do have a turtle tank. I use carbon in my filter. I have had many times where I have cleaned the tank. It seems like I rinse the stuff for an hour and it is still black!!!

I'll be interested to see some suggestions. I soaked my carbon in water for a while and then rinsed it some more. It seemed to help, but that could be because I was rinsing it for along time before that...LOL

I soaked for 10 minutes and then rinsed for 5 min. more and still wasn't completely cleaned of charcoal dust. I'm not happy with their filters, but I like the fountain itself. Since I use filtered water to fill the fountain, I just dispensed with the filters.
