Poison, Please tell others!

I thought that I would pass along this warning given the time of year. Many people know this already but if even one person learns something new it is worth it!

Lilies are POISON to cats. People bring beautiful Easter lilies into their homes at this time of year and the curious cat will take a little nibble. A cat that eats even a little part of the plant, any part of the plant, will almost certainly die. Please for the sake of your kitties do not bring lilies into your home!

A great way to enjoy lilies is to take them to work (as long as there are no cats at work!) or to take them to a nursing home and visit the flowers and the patient!

More information and a very sad story at this link.

there are more than 700 plants given the "lilly" name, and i've no doubt many of them, including easter lillies, are poisonous, but there are other that are not, such as the lillies that are commonly used in the betta bowls. my cockatiel chewed on one of the leaves of the lilly that was in my betta bowl and he's perfectly fine. so i just wanted to point out that there are many plants called "Lillys" but most of them are completely unrelated and not all of them are poisonous.

Actually I believe all types of lilies are toxic to cats in varying degrees Celeste_Eden, Easter lilies are by FAR the most poisonous, but others may cause a bellyache
