Urgent Rabies Question

Well, Mom is doing her best to keep the kittens from solid food - so far there isn't much interest, but I guess that is to be expected at first.

Right now - I have a bigger question about Momma Mew . . .

Mew had her rabies vaccine at least 5 weeks ago - if she would scratch or bite someone - does this mean she cannot give them rabies? She hasn't been tested for rabies and I don't know how the vaccine works - it just keeps her from getting rabies if she didn't have rabies? or can it protect others from it?

She's being very protective of the kittens - I mean - really really protective - whats happens if she bites someone to protect them - does she need to be tested for rabies and be quarrantined?

How does this work?

Here's a good link for you. The rabies vaccine protects her, and if she had rabies before the vaccine, you would have known within two weeks. The kittens will soon show interest in other foods. They don't really need them right now, but offer them anyway.

A cat bite can be serious, even if the cat is healthy, so it's something you want to avoid. She will be less protective as the kittens get older. Be sure to socialize the kittens whenever you can. You have a lot of fun in store for you. Good luck!
