Hissing season, anyone else?

I've noticed a number of times that when the weather is nice and I have windows open, Barnaby tends to hiss at Baxter. I haven't heard Barnaby hiss all winter and today for the first time I opened windows and the hissing started. I'm assuming that he is picking up other cat scents coming in from outside and associating them with Baxter.

Does anyone else notice this happening?

Yeah, actually, I noticed Punky hiss at Elly when they were looking out the sliding door yesterday. Hissing is rare around here, and usually it's Elly hissing at Punky for getting too rough when they play.

I can also relate to that - I take Indigo out on walks in the garden on a leash and harness (still going slow with Madiba) and she is ALWAYS irritable towards him afterwards, especially when they are both sniffing the air at the screen door, she will hiss at him and deliver the odd side-swipe. I was also wondering why the great outdoors makes her more bad-tempered towards him. She absolutely loves being outdoors and is never scared in the garden so I don't think it is fear prompting her irritation. Maybe the outdoor smells and sounds over-stimulate the cats, especially after the long winter break? Just speculating..

Hmmmm....I've had the opposite experience. First time I opened the window this spring was the first time in a long time Tommy got within 12 inches of Mellie without her hissing at him. I thought they were too absorbed in looking outside to hate each other.

The only hissing I hear is when the local Tom Cat decides to be curious about those little heads poking up and out of the screen door (Just as in my sig below). Then Binx goes nuts and starts hissing at him, at Skeeter, and at mom and dad! Otherwise, our boys LOVE having the door and windows open and are much happier with the fresh air.

Yeah I have noticed mine are being nicer to each other (well except for this really funny fight between Magnum and Boomer over the cat tree last night). They did fight over open windows though for the first few days they are open but now they are happy taking it in turns (it helps we have a huge window!
