Taking a cat for a hike

I take my dogs to the park a few times a week and I was there yesterday and a man was walking his cat. I think it may have been the funniest/coolest thing I have seen in a long time.

I don't live around mountains, but they are some hills and valleys in the park that I run at, so they can be a litte difficult at times. I am running and I look up and see what I think is a small dog walking towards us. I shorten my dogs leash and keep running. As I get closer I realize it is a cat! He was just trotting along like it was no big deal. I stopped and talked to the man about it. He said he was had the cat on a harness since he was about 6 weeks old, so he is pretty comfy with it. It was funny because even my dogs seemed to think it was crazy. They just sat there starring at this cat. My dogs are good with cats, but they didn't even try to sniff him- they just sat there and starred. I know that people walk their cats- I am trying to get my cat used to it, but never have I seen a cat hiking in the woods.

I just thought it was a cute story, so I would share.

That is so cool. I wish I could walk mine like that, but they hate their harnesses. Miss Kitty will walk for awhile, but only where she wants to go. Catbot will walk far enough to find some grass to lay in then she will lay there and not move. Oliver ... well, he won't even go outside.

I take Denzel for walks in the park. I got odd looks from some people but I don't care.

That is so cool. I love the idea you could take a cat for a walk without having to drag it on the leash!!!

Actually, I have to correct my last post - Denzel takes me for a walk really. I end up running behind him while he's chasing twigs and insects in the park. I have to get an extendable leash!

I want to be able to walk my cat too. I am going to start putting a harness on my kitten as soon as she comes home to live w/ me. I just think that if she is comfy with a harness and being outside then that will make going to the vet and many other things in her life easier.

I've always wanted to take my cat on a walk, but I don't know how she would take it. She is about 1 year old and Iv'e never encouraged her to go outside at all. Maybe I should get her a harness and try to get her used to it for now.

Cats were once worshipped like gods. They never let us forget that.

My cats are not interested in being taken for a drag, lol. We have a harness and a leash but whenever we put them on they forget how to use their legs.

I'm okay with just walking the dog.

walking cats

Hey there! I ordered a cat Walking Jacket from the internet that I use on mine....they dont mind it at all and I walk them around the yard in the Summer months. All my neighbors think I should be wearing a jacket of another variety but ask me if I care! Cats enjoy going for walks too!
