Stephanie Hearts Beeper

Stephanie seeems to have it in mind to crack Beeper's heart of stone

We keep Beeper and the other cats separated, mostly to save Beeper the stress (and from wheezing like an emphasemic every time she hisses or growls )

It's not too hard, we've got a little system worked out where while Beeper is napping in a bedroom, the cats are out, and while they're napping, Beeper is out and about in the house. Also, now that it's warmer, demon-kitty is insisting on spending more time in the backyard. Overall, the seperation works out pretty well for everyone, it's so second nature by now that they barely notice...

except for Steph.

Because Stephanie loves Beeper. Stephanie will sit outside the bedroom (where Beeper sleeps) and call for her. She watches Beeper out the window. She avidly inspects everywhere Beeper has been: the bed, her litterbox, her food dishes. She'd use the litterbox if we let her (but I don't think Beep would appreciate it)

Now the other two want nothing to do with The Beepster. If, on occasion, we let Beeper skirt past them from the outside to one of the kid's rooms, Miko will just sit and stare, and Scully will quickly move in the opposite direction. Meanwhile, one of us will have to hold a wriggling Stephanie as she reaches towards, and cries for, the object of her affection.

Beeper has not reciprocated Stephanie's affection. In fact, Stephanie slipped past us one time and earn herself a swat on the nose. But that has not deterred her.

So today, Stephanie employed her boldest move yet...

Beeper had eaten dinner and was sleeping in my parents bedroom. The cats were hungrily crying from my bedroom, so I let them out and fed them. Completely forgetting to close my parent's door

My dad gets home from cycling a half-hour later, goes into his bedroom, then comes right back out. "You have to see this!"

Stephanie is sitting not 6 inches away from a sleeping Beeper She's just staring at her. She looks up at us, then back at Beeper, and slowly blinks

She stayed there for over twenty minutes, eventually settling down to sleep next to Beep. Beeper awakens once, hisses, and then goes back to sleep. A couple minutes after that, Stephanie quietly jumps off the bed and comes out the bedroom as if to say, That's all I wanted.

Who knows, maybe Stephanie will be the one to crack Beeper's stone-cold exterior *shrug*

Thats so cute, and maybe once she manages to crack that stone cold exterior she can help him be friends with the others?

Its always so cute to see them sleep/site etc together for the first time... Scully and Magnum fell asleep on the sofa together not so long ago.. i had to take photos and post to everyone.

Yeah, it sounds more complicated than it really is . Kinda like if I wrote down my morning routine with the animals, I'd probably be surprised myself to see how much it really is. But it's just so second-nature around here, I guess I really don't notice all the work anymore.

My parents really want to see Beeper and the other cats get along. I don't think they realize that it's not as simple as "put-them-together-and-see-what-happens". I'm really trying to avoid too much stress and tension on both sides, so we'll see how this all pans out...

Well? I was thinking about this story the other day and realized you hadn't posted about how its been going.

Any progress being made? Does Beeper still have an adoring fan?

I hope Stepanie wins Beeper over. It's a great story. I'm anxious to hear about her progress too!
