cats wont use litter box but once

hi
i joined this forum because i am having aproblem and because i love cats

i have two cats ages 4 and 6
1 have 3 cat litter boxes because they will not use one together and will not go in once they have been in it to pee or poop and will not poop in the box where they pee
this behavior is causing me so much distress that i am not even workng outside the home
how can i make them go more than once in a box?
the younger one will already poop on rugs just because she was raised using the cat box in the bathroom but i have to shut her out of there now because of my boyfriends work schedule and his need for sleep and the cats bothering him
generally she goes in the box all the time
the other one gets urinary infections and more finicky foodwise because of that and as long as i give her plenty of wet food and wet her dry food sometimes she stays clear of blockages, but has gotten this habit fromt eh younger one of using seperate boxes for pee and poop and from each other...
i am busy all the time cleaning their boxes to prevent them from peeing elsewhere
arrgh!

Since you have three boxes, I guess that leaves the location and the litter. Make sure you use an enzyme cleaner to clean up any messes, even if you smell nothing. Do you have a lid on the boxes? That makes the odor much worse when the cat enters. I use the Littermaid, which keeps the litter cleaned. That might also be helpful. Good luck.

thanks for your interest

its not the odor
or the location
its spoiledness!
i have just been here so much and cleaned up after so quick that they want it clean and expect it clean
so i keep it clean and if its not
u h oh
when the younger one was little i know i couldve trained her to go to the toilet
she always wanted to go poop when i did and her litter box was next to the toilet..she is a mamas girl
i started using those miniature cat boxes and they are easier to clean and dont take as much litter then realized they had adapted by only going in the box when it was clean...so i moved in the old covered box and that helps the older one ..she likes to go in that one
i think i f i just went to two of the covered ones it might get them used to it being more normal, going more than once before i have to clean it again

Yeah, I think that might be it, too. As a general rule of thumb, the box needs to be big enough for the cat to turn around in. Bigger is better. Mine are 19x15, inside dimensions.

I have one box that is 36 X 24....8 inches deep

My other box is about 36 x 18....18 inches deep,
with a hole cut-out as an entrance.

cativa.....Most cats hate the covered boxes.

I really hope you consider what we are saying.
The way I see things....from a cat perspective...
they do not have good potty options...they are trying to tell you this.
