Female Pregnant While Nursing?! (Those Strays Again)

Um...another post about the strays under the house. I just noticed momma cat walking around and her tummy looked pretty big. Now, I've been feeding her and the 3 kittens 2 times a day (they share one 5 oz can of food and a 1/4 C. scoop of kitten chow). But, I don't think she'd be getting FAT off the diet! She's still nursing the kids, or at least she was last week. Can she get preggers while still nursing and taking care of this load??? My goodness I hope not! Geez... Someone give me some good news, please! That belly did look pretty round.

I think its possible... might not be the kind of thing that happens to every cat, but given that she lives outside and has a lot of "access" to males, its not unthinkable.

How old are the kittens? I'd think her body would at least let her wean them before going back through a heat cycle, but I guess it happens.

Gosh, I didn't think females went into heat while they were nursing. But it would be odd for a nursing stray to have a round belly, most would be skinny as a rail.

It's DEFINITELY possible. If there are males around, she will have gone back in to season and likely been mated. My Isis went into season when the kittens were 2 weeks old, which means she would she would have given birth when the kittens were 11 weeks old if she were mated How old are the kittens? I think you really need to get momma speyed NOW before she gets too much bigger!

Well, it sounds like we are going to trap them on Tuesday. Mom didn't look so big today. I wonder if she was just heavy with milk or something. Either way, I'm looking into low-cost alterations b/c the vet we were going to take them all to wants to charge $126.00 for momma's shots and $95.00 for her spay surgery!!!!!
