Foul Feces!

One of my troupe of cats is mega greedy. He could just eat adn eat and eat all day. He seems to be growing very fast too. He's only 8 months and is bigger than most fully grown cats (he is a Maine Coon mix so maybe that accounts for his huge size). Anyway, he's eating more than ever and now his feces is STINKING. He covers up his poop just fine but as soon as he's been there is this foul, sickening stink that permeates my entire apartment. He seems to be pooping 3+ times per day and I'm having to scoop immediately after he poops. Even after scooping the smell was so nauseating today that I had to go for a walk. It still stunk when I got back so I opened all windows and used an aromatherapy burner to try to drown out the smell. The other cats' poop just smells normal. Is it his greediness that is making his crap so smelly?

Oh I'm giving him dry and canned.

It's probably the food itself, not the amount. Many members have reported an association between food and smelly poop. Try switching to a higher-quality food and see if that helps. Also, with higher-quality food, he won't need to eat as much, so there should be less poop.

Thanks. He's on Felidae Dry and AvoDerm canned. I consider that to be high quality. Am I wrong?

You're not wrong, it is good food. But there may be something in it that isn't agreeing with him. So trying something else is a good idea. I wouldn't switch both at the same time. Try switching one or the other for a couple weeks to see if that's the culprit. If not, switch the other. Be sure to switch gradually.

Now that I remember, someone here reported smelly poop with Felidae. I use it and it's fine with my cats, but every cat is different!!

I agree with Tim. Try another good food. Some vets insist on all canned. I think mostly canned is ok. That's what my vet recommends. Make the switch gradually. Good luck!
