Cat on glass table

Hey! I just got a new coffee table from Ikea and it has a glass top (so you can see through to the floor) and I thought that it was interesting that my cat won't jump up onto it. I was wondering if other people's cats do this? If so I just may have to get a glass top kitchen table too. How long until she figures out that she can walk on it??

Hmmm... interesting. I would sure like to hear if this is a long term solution to keeping cats of table tops.

Somehow I think that cats are too smart and too curious to be tricked for long though.

I think sooner rather than later your cat will figure out it's not walking on air!!

I agree. Once you begin to leave items on the table, kitty will figure out that she can walk on it.

At this point, start buying extra glass cleaner!

I have glass top tables in my living room. I used to have a glass top dining room table too. My cats walk all over the tables. Like everyone said....get ready to buy extra glass cleaner.

We have glass table in our living room too. The cats walk on it without any fear. LOL

Another echo! My coffee table has two big glass panels, and the cats don't mind walking on them at all!.

I noticed that if I dropped a kitten onto a glass table from about 2 inches, he will bump his nose because he doesn't see the glass and isn't prepared to take the impact. So maybe they're not used to glass and don't know for sure they can walk on it.

You owners with cats who walk on the glass, are those glass tables perfectly clear or are they smoked or colored? How long did it take them to walk on them? Did they take a while to figure it out or did they just jump on right away?

I had a cat who was facinated by glass, and my glasses. She thought it was neat to have a substance that you could see through but not move through.

I've also had cats afraid of mirrors laid on the floor. They think it's a hole in the floor with a big room under it.

Human babies, according to Psych. 101, are also afraid to cross glass. I think my cats were not afraid because there were decorative items on the glass. I think the mirrored room is really funny!
