making a cat scratchpost / climbing frame / toy thing

Does anyone have any experience or ideas on making your own scratchpost / climbing frame / toy thing.

Wanting to get one for little ceefer but prices seem stupidly high for these things and though making one would be better and cheaper.

Just wondered if anyone else had done this??

We made our own... they love it.

We built this without the house on top (the beasts can't fit in a house that small). It was way cheaper than buying one and fun to make!

If you give up on making one, check ebay. I have purchased 2 Cat Trees on ebay and not only got a good deal on them, but my cats love them!

Sonotube is some construction tube they use to pour pillars and stuff... it cost me $13ish for 8ft.

We used staples on the underneath and glue on the top for carpet on the platforms, used sisal rope on the posts (just wrapped around and glued) and glued the fabric to the tubes.

I bought a traffic cone and drilled holes (4 verticle rows, a couple cms apart),
and using black twine (sissal), I wrapped it around and around,
and at each hole, I 'stitched' the rows to the cone through the holes I'd drilled.

I made this while Nika & Niko were only 2 months old,
and the plastic flower pot 'nest' that I lashed on top was big enough
for both of them to wrestle or curl up in.

I'm going to make another one this month without the 'nest'.

They love scratching and climbing it.

right finally done it

Only ended up doing a simple capital I shape (pics tomorrow) I was going to go more elaborate design but I didn't count on the price of sisal rope £17 for 30 meters.

But ceefer is loving it, well he's on the top having a kip as we speak

Happy cat happy owners
