So the cats got out...

Yep, last Thursday while I am at my very last class taking my very last test, my brother discovers that both Miko and Scully have gotten outside

Of course, I don't find this out until I get home that afternoon...

Apparently, it's around 9 am and he's still sleeping (the sibs are homeschooled). Stephanie comes into his room, crying and crying and crying. Not too unusual for Steph, so he ignores her and keeps sleeping.

But she parks herself in front of his floor-to-ceiling window and keeps crying. And not just "I'm-lonely-and-bored-pay-attention-to-me" cries, but very, very agitated sounding.

Thinking that something must be up, he rolls out of bed and looks out the window, just in time to see Scully saunter by He says his heart just about stopped and he felt nearly ill.

Still groggy and in his pjs, he rushes out the door, and there Miko and Scully are, just wandering around the front yard. Stephanie is still in his bedroom and crying so loudly he can hear her outside.

It's when he goes to grab Miko, and she darts back towards the house, that he notices the corner of Mom and Dad's bedroom screened is popped out Both the cats avoid being caught by him, but he's able to herd them back through the window and secure it from the outside.

He then tries to resume a normal breathing pattern.

He tells me all this, and then says that it could easily have been over an hour before anyone noticed those cats were out. Without Stephanie being Stephanie, and alerting him to the fact, who knows what could have happened

Of course, my heart just about stopped too when I heard this story, but I must say I am very proud of the way he handled it. The cats are now banned from my parents room, and all the window screens have been checked and rechecked. Though they do have collars and tags, Stephen (my bro) is adament that they be microchipped as soon as possible.

Looks like I finally have my own "Cat-Got-Out" story

Oh yeah, I know how he felt. The other summer the kitties popped out the window screen in the dining room and 4 of the kitties got out and it was night time! Got everyone back inside within an hour except Milo, he didn't show up until the next morning!
