Kitty's first trip outdoors

I've just about got my kitten trained in using my catflap.....

I'm making sure shes happy using it and coming back inside on her own before i unblock the way all the way out.

Anyone have any tips to make sure she comes home when i let her out for real?

If you are going to have an indoor/outdoor kitty, the best way to make sure you take her out for supervised outings at first so she gets used to the area and all of the smells. Afterward, be sure that you keep a strict feeding schedule so she knows what times she needs to be home should she decide to be adventurous.

My first kitty was indoor/outdoor. We lived in a great location where there wasn't any traffic, all the neighbours had fenced-in lawns so their own animals didn't get out, and we had plenty of property for my cat to play in. I hope your cat has these things as well so she will stay happy and safe.

Dittoes to the supervised outings. Thanks to taking Tommy and Rocket out on leash and harness, I know what they like to do when they get out the door. And I know neither one takes off and disappears over the horizon. So I'm not going to be in too much of a panic if they get out and I notice it fairly soon after.
