Norwegian Forest Cats Owners

I nonchalantly mentioned to my dh this morning that my next cat will be a NF. He didn't say no right off as he normally does when he's definate about something, so I figure I'll work on him a bit I love big cats. So tell me something about their personalities and sizes and of course cost. I have three cats, my only large cat is a Ragdoll called Big Tom
Thanx pals

My "wegie" is top show quality, so he cost quite a bit more than a pet would, but I think pets cost about the same as Ragdolls (give or take..).

My Riley is a big love bug. But he hates to be held. But Riley is really sweet! He's constantly purring and kneading around us and loves to be near us and cuddly. He's a very big guy at around 17 or so pounds (not fat). His fur is really thick and gets really, really thick in the winter time!

Now wegies and Maine Coons have similar personalities (though, I think MCs are a bit sillier!). NFCs normally aren't as large as MCs, but definitely are big. MCs have a long rectangular body, whereas NFC have a shorter "square" body (still large, just not as long...).

Riley (my NFC) is all the other kitties favorite cat. He's the one everyone LOVES to cuddle with! And he's the one that takes every newbie under his wing.

When I decided I wanted a NFC I found a breeder in Chicago. I had pick of 3 brothers and I flew up there to meet them. Riley let me know that I wasn't picking them...HE was picking me! He was purring, kneading, giving love bites, and hi-fiving me...his brothers didn't stand a chance with that hamming it up!

Through my cat showing I've made other friends that breed NFCs, and I've loved all their cats too. So, yeah, I think it's a great breed.

Thanx for the feedback TxnKat, Riley sounds like my Big Tom, he just tolerates me picking him up, but he is the most lovable kitty ever. Are wegies big shedders. I've read a few places that RD really don't shed that much, Wrong. It's furball city in my house

Wegies aren't always that big of shedders until Spring comes, then they lose their winter coat and can shed A LOT for a month or two, otherwise it's no worse than any other cat. Some wegies go from really LONG coats in the winter to almost looking shorthair in the summer! hehe Riley doesn't lose that much coat and has a really nice summer coat, but yes, they change coats for the seasons, so when spring hits they'll shed more, but otherwise it's not too bad, IMO.
