Hey all. Forgive me if this is a topic elsewhere. I did a search and couldn't find a thread, but that doesn't mean much coming from me.

I was just wondering about cat shows. I love my cats dearly and as some of you know I recently got a kitten whom I call The Professor. His markings are perfect, his paw pads are all the same color, and his disposition is gentle. I overheard someone in the mall the other day talking about a cat show and the idea struck me that I should educate myself on them and perhaps share The Professor in a competition.

First of all, if shows are troubling on the cat I want no part. I don't want to stress him out. It just sounds like it might be something fun to do. I love showing him off.

Anyone know any good information or websites about this?

Here's a picture of him. If anyone can suggest what his breed and coloring are (well, actually I know his breed is medium hair from the vet and that he's a gray tabby, but maybe shows have more specific terminology) I'd appreciate it.

Again, sorry if this is already a thread somewhere. Just direct me to that one and I won't mind you locking this!

Thanks gang!

Well, this is my 4th year showing in cat shows, so I can help answer some questions. I show primarily in TICA, but also in CFA from time to time. I show alters (pedigreed cats that have been spayed or neutered) and the Household Pet Class (non-pedigreed cats/rescues/etc.).

If you were to show Professor he's not any specific breed, so you'd show him in the HHP class. From his pictures he looks shorthaired, but that could be his pictures. You'd enter him as a "Blue Mackerel Tabby" and his fur length. To be elidgable to be shown a kitten must be between 4 and 8 months old. And an adult is 8 months and older. Adult HHPs MUST be altered (spayed/neutered).

Showing cats is different for each cat. Some cats take to it right away, others take a show or two to like it, others hate it. The majority of my cats love it, but some hate it, so they aren't shown.

Anymore questions feel free to ask. Also, since The Professor is a HHP (household pet) check out this link:
