My Kitty needs help!!!!

Hi

I have a kitten that about 7/8 weeks old. It a persian mix. the problem is that it is overrun by fleas. there are so many fleas that when i pick it up i have them all over my hands.

Also the kitten is getting very week (i am not sure if this is because of the fleas or not). I will take it to the vet tomorrow, but is there anything i can do about the fleas right now? because it really seems like the poor thing is dying cuz of the !!!

bye

Unfortunately getting rid of the fleas at this point isn't likely until you see the vet. Over the counter flea products are not safe for kittens (or really, any animal for that matter) and may do more harm than good.

For tonight, make sure the kitten is eating and drinking. The vet will be able to help you. Good luck!!

If you can get a flea comb I would try and comb and kill as many as you can. You can squash them with a knife or screwdriver. I would also move the kitten to a place it hasn't slept before and vacuum very well where the kitten has been sleeping, also change any bedding to fresh.

Good luck!!

Oh and as emrldsky said do not use any flea product that hasn't been recommended by a vet.

You can also try and put the kitten on some white paper whilst you are combing it and you will see if there is any fleas still jumping off.

Use Ivory Dishsoap and wash her -- we had the same problem when we found Tink -- she was 2 weeks old and covered in fleas. Give her a few baths (with breaks in between) and start at her neck and work down, getting it to foam -- it sufficates the fleas and they fall off. Pick/comb as many off as you can while the soap is on, rinse, and let her settle down. Then go again.

It's a hard process but it works...we got 90% of the fleas off of her with about four baths. We kept doing it once a day after that.

Yes, it's quite likely the weakness is due to the fleas. The kitten probably has anemia. Don't delay on the vet visit. Anemia can be fatal if not treated.

Good luck and keep us posted on how the kitten is doing.
