Problem with a cat in the neighborhood.

Ok, see our neighbors care for a bunch of strays and this one cat whom is their "barn" cat is a Maine Coon mix(?) and had a litter of 7 kittens. They are between 4-7 months old and the mamma is hissing, growling, & attacking the kittens. My neighbors knew I had a computer and belonged to a cat forum so they wanted to know if I could find out for them why mamma cat is doing this. Can someone give some advice on why mamma cat is doing this?

Thanks,
Catlover

P.S. "Barn" cat means they rid of the mice.

Maybe you could tell your neighbors to sign up to the catforum and they can tell use more about their problem. Just a suggestion.

The mother cat has weaned the kittens, and they are probably still pestering her.

Oh ok. The neighbors did say that the kittens try to follow her everywhere. I'll let the neighbors know tonight. Also, they don't have a computer so that is why they asked me to ask for them.

maybe it could be some sort of side affect from a hormone shift of being fixed shortly after having kittens. Isn't there a waiting period after a cat has kittens of at least 2-3 months? I could be wrong.
