Freaking out

Late last night, Cabela woke me up from a pretty deep sleep, wanting to go outside. So, I got up, put on her long leash and we went out and she did her 'doggie business'. When I got back to the house, I found the door standing open, when I obviously hadn't closed it properly, being half asleep. I did an quick rollcall, and realized that Skimbleshanks was missing. This caused about 5 minutes of total panic, followed by some rational thinking, and wandering around the fields and park with a latern for a couple of hours.

Luckily, Skimbleshanks had elected not to wander too far. He had gotten on top of the firewood pile, underneath the tarpaulin and settled in. I was sitting on the back stoop being quiet and shining a light around when I heard him meow, really softly. So, he was back inside in time for breakfast.

I plan to be more careful from now on, but just to play it safe, I'm going to stop by Home Depot this evening and get a power door closer for the back door

Glad to hear of the happy ending! Been there a couple of times, I've found that night time has been the best time to find them because when I shine the flashlight around it catches their eyes and you can spot them right away!
