New cat in the house

For 9 years my 2 darlings Nicky and Lindsey had a great life.
Last week Lindsey had to be put to sleep... Nicky misses her.
Got a new kitten 5 weeks old, what a bundle of energy...well she
continues to jump at him (he is docile) and he just backs off.
He is curious, but not really interested in playing. I was told to get
another kitten as a playmate for the new one....
Any suggestions??

New Kitten

Nicky may still be grieving, and it may take a while to get over losing her friend. A 9-year old cat may or may not play with a kitten. Did Nicky used to play with Lindsey? I've had some older cats who were content to just sit/lay and watch the kitten antics. The suggestion that you get another kitten for your kitten may be right on target. If you don't, as the kitten you have gets older (in a year or two) and settles down some, s/he may become buddies with Nicky. Right now, compare it to a 60 year old person having a toddler as a friend. I don't know what 9 years old is in comparison to human years, but it's up there.

Thanks, I will be getting another kitten on Saturday.
Nicky used to play with his sister, give her hugs and lick her.
Believe it or not he started doing this with the new kitten. Of course
she started kicking with her back legs. But, by getting another
kitten the same age, I believe it will aleviate some of the pressure
on Nicky to play with her all the time. (She is a handful, byt adorable)

I think in your situation another kitten sounds like a splendid idea! I definitely think it will take the pressure of your Nicky. Sorry to hear about Linsey. Have a blast with your two new kittens. I just love kittens....no more for me now though.
