My cat has been acting very strange lately

My cat, Richele, is an 8 year old "Tortie." I live in an apartment with an outside porch where I put her litter box. She has been trained to meow at me when she needs to use the bathroom and be let outside. She has been doing this for about 8 years. However, just recently she is no longer meowing for me to let her out to use the restroom and worse, she is using the bathroom in the hallway, just the hallway, no other place inside. I am trying to figure out what is going on. Why is she all of a sudden changing her behavior? I always make sure she has easy access outside for her litter box and that her box is kept clean. I just don't get it.

Is this both pee and poop? If it's just pee, you may be dealing with a urinary tract infection or crystals. Cats will typically go outside the box when this happens. First I would try bringing the box inside (and put it in the bathroom she's been using) to see if she's developed an aversion to the porch for some reason, but if she is still not using it, then I'd recommend a vet visit.

I think bringing it in is a ood plan but also, if she hasn't been to the vet recently (6 mos to a year), I'd bring her in for a full check up.
Any sudden change in behavior can often mean there is an underlying health problem and 8 years old is a good time to do a complete senior physical anyway.
