cat grass

Will giving your cat cat grass make him more likely to eat your other plants? I would love to buy them some but have been afraid that they will decide to chomp down on the others and I don't want that mainly for their health. So does anyone think they would start eating plants if I got them some for Christmas?

I don't know if it's "cat grass", but there's a certain kind of grass Arianwen eats when we walk outside. She sniffs around, sometimes flehmening (sp?), and very carefully picks out the best blades of grass. I let her eat it, because she's so meticulous about picking it out.
That hasn't made her want to start munching other plants.

No, it won't. I have tons of plants and they stick to their grass.

Definitely get some! Our cat loves it - we keep it growing all the time. It's a little pricey to buy the packs that you just add water to though. What we do is to purchase one of those containers (with seed, and growing mix included) then just divide it amongst 2-3 smaller containers. Each pot usually lasts 2 - 3 weeks (or more) before it starts to die off, so if you start a new pot every 3 weeks or so, you always have a fresh pot. Plus, there's less waste with the smaller pots, since the grass eventually dies off before it gets eaten.

You can go even cheaper by buying it in little bags. It's insanely easy to grow (freakishly so, even) so it's really no hardship not having it ready-to-go in the containers.

I think it actually discouraged Stormy from eating my other plants this summer since it gave her something else to munch on.

cujo is ADDICTED to cat grass. i stopped buying it because he wouldn't stop eating it. i kept the pot outside, and he just sat by the door and cried for it. if i didn't take it away from him he would eat the entire pot and then throw it up somewhere. crazy cat!
