New House, New Habits (A broken one too!)

Well we finally got into our house and the kitties are loving it so far. It took them about three days to adjust to it. I put them in a room with their litterboxes when we first got here, and let them out after an hour. Stix took off to explore but Kota would just come out a few steps at a time. They didnt even fight the first two weeks! That didnt last long though.

Anyway, Kota has discovered the fireplace and I have caught her a few times goofing off in there. I dont think the previous owner ever used it, so it's clean but I want her to stop doing that. I have never had or used a fireplace - this one has like a little metal curtain going across the opening. Is there something that I can get to close it off while not in use? If so let me know! One good thing since we moved in - she seems to have lost her fear of thunderstorms. She used to run and hide, so maybe it had something to do with vibrations or being in a top floor apartment.

Stix is still his old self - always trying to see what he can get away with. He really loves getting up on the counters and seeing how long it will take Daddy to notice and start cursing. lol. We are working on that habit .

LOL Stix is being baaaad About the fireplace, we recently got a fireplace too & Twinkie was walking around in there since it was brand new. Ever since we used the fireplace & it has ashes in it, they don't go in there anymore. It has the flimsy screen that you drag to close it & if you are worried about them going inside of it, you can get some black zip ties & close the 2 screens with it. No one will know it's a zip tie if you cut off the super long plastic part after zipping it

If you build a small fire in there, the cat will not go back in there. I think it is instinct to avoid fire. If only humans were as intelligent most times

I was going to write a Chuck Norris saying here, but he e-mailed me a roundhouse kick.
