Introduce new cat; is this a good idea?

I am thinking about getting another kitty so my cat can have something to do while I am gone at work and school. He is 12 months old, and is very dominant and aggressive. Is it possible to get a new cat without all **** breaking loose? I just don't want to have him maul the kitty to death while I'm away out of jealousy, territoriality or anything like that. Share your experiences, and tips for how to introduce them etc. BTW a guy I work with is trying to get rid of a litter of 7 week old kitties; is this too small/young? Is it a better idea to get another young adult cat?

Hi Ben,

Here's an article on cat-to-cat introductions: http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?a ... roductions

Also, I think 7 weeks is a little too young. They'd be better off leaving mama around 12 weeks.

Good luck.

I think the younger the cat, the easier they'll be accepted, but 7 weeks is WAY too young. 12 weeks is the best. I got my kitties at 10 weeks, but they didn't have a mom.

That said, Cinderella didn't need another cat. I got Cleo because I felt bad leaving her all day, but they've never become friends. I think cats pretty much sleep during the day while you're at work, and if your cat is really aggressive, he might like being the only cat. But you can never tell.

I love Cleo and the twins, and they play with each other so I'm glad I got the twins for Cleo, but if I had it to do over, knowing what I know now, I would have kept it at just Cinderella.

That's just my story.
