should I get my cat a friend?

my female cat Cherry is a year old. she's a house cat. i take her on walks every day up to 2 hours.
now i feel terribly guilty for not letting her outside on her own.
I've had cats all my life, 2 got killed by cars, one was poisoned, two more were stolen and micro chipped! so i couldn't get them back.
i live in the town too near a busy road.
anyways i wonder if i should get my cat a friend?
I'm thinking of a kitten,
she gets on well with one stray cat, she doesn't mind him coming into the house. she follows him around.
she's ok too with dogs, she has no fear of them. she doesn't mind them coming into the house either.
would she get on better with a male or female kitten?
it would be great if she had a playmate, she's highly playful and full of energy.
would this be a Good idea?
whats your experience with indroducing a new cat?

Re: should I get my cat a friend?

If she is already getting along well with the stray cat, and it truly is a stray, would welcoming that one into your home be a bad idea?

I have never had a problem adding a new cat, but I think my group is more the exception then the rule. Some people have had a lot of difficulty adding a cat. They take it very slowly and have many ideas for making the transition go more smoothly. I'm sure others who are better at it will post.

Re: should I get my cat a friend?

that stray cat has been around at least 12 years now, but he has like 5 homes that I know of!

I want to get her another house cat (kitten) before she gets too set in her ways.
I know older cats can be more territorial.
