Behavior Change

I'm just curious about something I've noticed in my cat. When we took him in (he was a stray 6 month old that had been hanging out in my friend's garage), he was the friendliest thing. During his time as an outdoor cat, he'd go to anybody who beckoned him over for a good head scratch. After we brought him to our home, he changed. Every time we have someone over, he becomes very suspicious of the person, backing away and generally acting frightened. It was a bit of a problem when my cousin stayed over for a couple of weeks, although he did warm up to her eventually after giving her the cold shoulder the first few days. The weird thing is that he'd met my cousin before (when he was still an outdoor cat) and was totally friendly with her. Plus, he's no longer that affectionate with me or my husband anymore. He'll tolerate the occasional head scratch, but doesn't look for affection very often, preferring that we stay away until he comes to us.

I was just curious to know whether anybody else has had a similar experience or has any idea what brought about this change. Not that this has decreased my affection for fuzzy one bit...
