First Spray

I was brushing my 10 month old neutered cat just tonight. He is very fuzzy and I wanted to get the knots out. While brushing his hind-side (or the top of his legs below his anus), he sprayed for the first time! I cleaned it up as best as I could, but I do not know why this happened! I've brushed him many times before and he has never reacted that way before; he is a very kind feline. His brother of the same litter has lived with him his whole life in our apartment as well, and he has shown no signs of spraying of his own.

Any idea what might've brought this on?

Re: First Spray

Was it actual spraying....came out horizontally? Or was it peeing...came out vertically, maybe a dribble? I'm thinking may your hit a nerve with the brush or comb.

Re: First Spray

I assume it was a spray... again, it was the first time I've every seen any cat do this-- it came out horizontally behind him. But that's what I was thinking... maybe I hit a nerve...

Thank you for your reply!
