Help! Cat won't let me sleep at night!

My cat is a year and a half old and has always been active at night (as cats are) but lately he's been attacking me much more often in the middle of the night.. mostly sneak feet attacks and biting. I have a squirt gun that I keep by the bed but I think he's starting to see it as a game. I locked him outside the bed room last night and he cried and scratched the door all night long. ANY advice on how to deal with this would be great!

Re: Help! Cat won't let me sleep at night!

I used to, while half asleep grab my cat and hold her/him like a teddy bear and go to sleep, they would either give in and sleep to or go run off. I did this a few times and that seemed to work. I also put a thick blanket at the foot of the bed over my feet so that they could still play and attack my feet but I felt nothing. I got my kitties around 9-12 months I think, and it took about a year and a lot of sleepless nights before they stopped. But just like anything else you get used to it.

You can also take the ignorning appraoch. As in trying to lay still and ignore it. If your cat thinks your toes wont react to it, they may find something else to play with. You could also play with them before you go to bed to tire them out. I used a laser pointer. Id have them running up and down the hallways, hoping off of walls doing some matrix moves. They were definitly too tired to play with my toes and often would just snuggle up with me in bed.

Make sure to play with your cat several times a day to run off it enerby. And have proper attention paid to them. Keep it as a pattern so it learns at night it doesnt get love and attention ~ only during the day. Night is for resting.

As with children so with cats they need to run off their energy so they can sleep at night.

I love the matrix reference. I do that to Nito with the laser pointer too!
