Why Can't We All Just Get Along?

I live on my own in a basement suite, and recently adopted a 10-year-old fixed male for company, Marcus. He adapted well, and was much happier than at his previous home.
A couple of days ago, my uncle brought over Loki, the cat I had picked from a litter when I moved in with my aunt and uncle a few years ago. (Another fixed male)
However, the two seem to be having their issues with each other. I had expected it, but I worry that I may be making them miserable by making them live together. They're growling and hissing at each other constantly.
I can't seem to find any way to make this easier on them, and it breaks my heart to see them so uncomfortable in their own home.
Is it possible for fixed males in this situation to eventually get along?

If anyone has any advice or suggestions from any experience, it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Why Can't We All Just Get Along?

Try Googling "cat introductions" and also searching this forum. There have been many discussions on this topic.

A few days is not enough to judge -- sometimes, it can take quite a while for cats to make peace. The resident cat sees an intruder and is understandably upset. Don't give up yet -- you just need to take some steps to ease the transition

Start again by using the tips in this article written by a vet. I think you can find your answer there. Cats are very territorial by nature. They can become best buddies it just take introductions the right way by working with their way of being cats!

Lisa is right. This all takes time!
