Doesn't remember brother

Hi - i've just found this forum and wondered if anyone may have some advice! I have 2 cats who are brother and sister (Rafa and Milly) and are 3. They have never been separated until last week, when Rafa was hit by a car and was at the vets for a week. We brought him home on Friday and he is in a crate in the lounge resting for most of the day with lots of hugs and a few walks around during the day. Milly seems to have completely forgotten him - she is hissing and growling at him and won't go near him. I have made a point of giving her lots of attention too, and i would have thought the vet smell would be fading after nearly 2 days....
Any ideas???? They always used to be good friends!

Re: Doesn't remember brother

Since cats see the world with their nose this isnt uncommon. I would use Feliway spray or plug ins if it doesnt turn around by the end of the week. For now use blankets or what they snuggle on and rub it on the other cat so they have the same scent. Or put vanilla between each of their shoulder blades to give them each the same scent.

Sorry to hear your kitty was hit by a car. You might want to consider making them indoor only cats for safety sake. There are so many things out there that could injure or kill your companions!

Im glad he on the road to health.

Hi ronk,

its not just the smell- Rafa isn't acting like Rafa anymore which is unnerving for Milly. Time should heal this- and Feliway might help, too.

Get well soon, Rafa
