Help with cat and kitten introductions

Hi all,

So we purchased a new female kitten (has been spayed) and already have a 2.5 year old in the house. Progress has been made and today has been the first day that they've seen each other. The kitten seems fine but my cat is being a bit different:

1- she is not playing at all. The one nice thing about our cat was that she was needy and alwasys wanted to be played with (strings, balls, etc). She won't play anything right now or for the past 3 days. Will her playful spirit return?

2- she is not eating as much as before. Is this just stress related?

3- she spends most of the time staring out the window from the top of the couch lyig down. She would do this before the kitten, but we'd also find her on the chairs closer to the ground. Is she scared to be too low? It seems that she is trying to be stuck up and not look at us on the couch. Does she hate us?

Sorry for the first post being a bunch of questions. I hate seeing my cat sad and don't know who to ask. I realize the cats won't be best friends but will my cat return to normal? Or has she aged with all this extra stress? The one nice thing is that I am able to bring her off the couch to cuddle when she is in her sleep zone.

Thanks for any help!!

Adam

Re: Help with cat and kitten introductions

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now and my adult cat is also being strange (the kitten is acting normal).

Everything that I've read says that if you do the introductions properly, and with patience, two cats should usually be able to get along eventually. However, there are some cats that are just happier being an "only" (and I really hope my adult cat isn't one of those )
