Percy wants attention 'NOW-OW-OW'!

When I come home from work about 1:30 a.m. Percy's sooooo happy to see me. He wants to play,he wants a treat, and he wants lovin'. I'm happy to see him too,but my thoughts are of becoming horizontal, and remaining that way for some time. I DO want to give Percy my attention but at the moment I come home I'm tired. I sit down, collecting my wits, and strength, and Percy will start to yowl. If I don't get up RIGHT THEN,he'll start this L-O-U-D wailing yowl. Then I say 'Perce, gimmie break' and he starts with his 'daddy don love me' routine. That usually works. Is there a way to make him understand I need some down time?

Nope. He's had down-time all day and when you get home he want's to be "up" with you.
I know you're tired, but the kitty doesn't understand that. Best bet would be to just suck-it-up for 5-10min and give him some attention. It doesn't have to be vigorous play, maybe just a close snuggle and scrubble for several minutes. Talk to him, tell him how much you love him but you are so tired. Talking will make him feel like you are really paying attention to him. Saying these things out loud will help remind you of why you love him and how important it is for him to feel included in at least a small part of your day. Giving him attention will also allow you to relax, too. (if he is the kind of cat to settle down for petting and purrs, not yowling for more, More, MORE!)

The first thing I do when I walk in the door at night is give the girls a little meal of kibble, which they LOVE! It gives me time to change clothes without needing a guard at my closet door, relax, go through the mail, turn on the computer, etc. Then they get attention and play time, which they ask for after they've groomed their cute little paws and faces.

Yes, well, in our house the first thing anyone - even the teenager ! - does when they get home is race around the house going " kitty! Gracie! where's the kitty girl???" to pet her and make a fuss over her - whether she's fast asleep or waiting wide awake at the door. Remember those t-shirts in the mail order catalogs? : "if kitty ain't happy, ain't nobody happy..."

We know who the head of the household is, don't we? Nina is very polite, but expects the prompt service that is her due.
