cats greeting each other???

Hi. My cat and my "other" cat (stray) always touch each other's noses everytime I get them close enough. Is that bad or good??? My kitty is more curious about him than he is about her. I think she tries to play with him by touching his ears, but he doesn't have a very nice temper, so I try not to "force" anything.

Re: cats greeting each other???

Touching noses is the way cats greet each other. In fact when a human approaches an unknown cat, the best way to greet the cat is to put out your index finger for it to sniff. The finger is an equivalent of the nose. I've seen many times where people have come into my house and go straight for petting my cats and they shy away. I tell them to do the finger thing and then the cats are receptive to petting.

I get down on all fours every night when I get in and get head butts and a nose touch. Both my cats do it now and I saw my Adopted Fay do it with an outdoor cat before I adopted here.

The have to be comfortable with you first before thet'll come that close to your mouth/teeth.

The last time people tried to elimate free roaming cats it resulted in The Black Plague.
