wont stay the night in rv

our cat, max, a 3 yr old male, wont stay the night in the rv with us. we have it set up seasonly at a campground, and every night at 3 am, like clock work, he starts to howl, and continues to howl until we get up and take him home( thank god its only 15 min away).

when we first started to take him to the rv, he stayed, and it just started mid summer last summer. as well, when we take him to the camppground, he immediatly goes into the rv, and heads straight to the bedroom where he burrows under the covers, not something he does at home.

while he is a house cat, we allow him outside on a leash, and he sticks close to the house, hiding among the shubbery, awaiting birds. he doesnt seem to like the outdoors at the campground.

anyone have any ideas on what we can do to break him of this?

I agree, you're going to have to spend a few sleepless nights and let him howl. Invest in some foam earplugs

He's persistant because he knows it works eventually. You're going to have to show him that it doesn't work! Be strong... toughing it out for an hour and then giving in is showing him that he has to try really hard and be persistent because it does eventually get him his way.

Agreed with all that the others have said. You just have to outlast him. A few nights of that and you'll be set. He'll test again next summer, but eventually you'll be fine. It's summer break anyway so you know you can rest all day Be super boring to him and don't communicate at all though otherwise you're verbally rewarding him too.

Don't free-feed Max by leaving food out all the time but give him a morning and evening meal. Give him a good long walk before your bedtime on the leash, then when you get back to the RV, feed him his evening meal. He may feel tired enough and sleepy after eating that he will sleep through most of the night. Hope this works....let us know how it goes.

Thank you all.... We figured that was the only way to go... I foresee a lot of sleepless nights ahead. usually after 30 min we give up.... hard when you have to go to work the next day!

My Misa does that too early in the morning until I feed her. >< It gets annoying too.
