Hey all,

I'm possibly going to be moving in about a month to an apartment (been living with my parents). I'll be taking my kitties with me. I'm trying to figure out what the best way to make this as easy as possible is. I've never had to move with cats, we've always just lived here. My oldest cat, Chen Le, will likely be less than pleased, but she also largely detests my younger sister's existence (although this has gotten better in the last few months. We adopted my sister 4 years ago at 2.5 years old. Maybe she's finally getting civilized enough at nearly 7 for my cat to tolerate her). So hopefully it will be positive for her. I also hope to buy a cat tree soon after we move in (we have one here, but I should leave it for the cats that will remain).

Any advice at all would be much appreciated!

On moving day, have all the cats you're taking with you confined to one room with their carrier(s)---not the room you're moving stuff out of. Cats can get upset or run out a door during moving furniture etc. This keeps them quiet and settled in one room so they don't see and get involved in all the activity. Check out your apartment thoroughly for any holes or small spaces a cat can get through.....in cupboards, etc. in every room before you move stuff in---it's a lot easier in an empty apt. If you're moving within the same town or city, move all the stuff out first and arrange it, except for boxes and other stuff to be unpacked. Set up their food, litter trays (use their soiled litter) in the place you want them to be, so their scent is in the tray. The cats should be the last thing you move. Cats may go off their food a little when moved, but in a few days should be comfortable, and I'm sure you'll have some little helpers to help you unpack. Good luck!
