Frodo is nearly a year old, and experiencing some wanderlust. He has been neutered, so no worries that the local feral population would explode, but since he has only three legs, and we have coyotes that lurk terribly close to our fenceline at times, I think it is best to keep him indoors. He disagrees. He Meows loudly at the door, sneaks out when someone else is coming in, tries to get out when the dog is let out to do his business, and has even learned that the bell we hung on the door for the aforementioned dog means "Let me out!" He will sit and paw at it, come over to one of us, stare at us and then look meaningfully at the door, return to the bell, and repeat.
I broke down and got him a kitty harness and leash, but he really isn't fond of it, and just rolls on the ground trying to dislodge it when I take him outside.
What can I do to discourage him from trying to race outside every time the door opens? Oh yes...water doesn't work. My stepdad used that little trick on him, trying to keep him from getting on the furniture when he was living with my parents. All he did was squint in anticipation of the squirt!
It's kind of cute, really.
