Common Cat Behavior Myths Decoded

I just bumped into this article on Yahoo

Good read and sums up alot of what we've been talking about on these forums. Perhaps worthy of a Sticky?

Good article -- simple, to the point.

Most people here know these aren't true, no need for a sticky. Except maybe about sucking the life out of newborns. We all pretty much still believe that one.

My parents had cats when I was a baby. They sucked out my soul and that's why I'm entirely soulless now. What, it makes total sense!

Seriously, I liked the article. I don't think it adds much to the knowledge of experienced cat people, but I really wish novice owners or non-cat people would read it. Especially the longer version. I can't tell you how many people were shocked that I trained Zephyr... only to realize that their own kittens became wild little hellions without training... or have blamed their "bad kitten" for misbehaviour that was really just a normal baby who hadn't yet been taught social skills.

I never had cats growing up, hence NOTHING was sucked out of me. Maybe that is why I am fat today??
I don't know how much of this stuff is common knowledge among cat owners. Common knowledge is not common. There are lots of first time owners that know nothing about cats except the garbage they may have been told by ignorant people.

Cat owners' prayer: "Lord help me be the person my cat thinks I am"

I liked the link to things a vet hates as well - very practical.

Marie73 You are too funny!!

I agree though that common knowlege isn't really common for folks who haven't had cats.
