Spayed female 'pretending' to spray?

I swear there is nothing coming out but she goes through the motions in corners, doors, etc, and usually right in plain sight when we are sitting in the living room having just shared play or petting time. Is there anything happening? There is never an odor and I've seen her do it up close and I'd swear nothing is coming out. Is it possible she is?
She's a 4yr old female, spayed, happy, playful cat. Have had her about 3 months and she's really become a loving lap cat in that time.

Maggie has been doing this for 16 years. Usually only in the morning when I get up...she backs up to the bed and does what I call "squirmy butt". Nothing coming out. I've come to the conclusion it's kind of a greeting, a little happy dance kind of thing.
