Introducing a Kitten to a Cat

Hi All

We have a 2 year old cat, who is quite timid (Although not when he gets to know people).
After must discussion we got ourselves a new kitten yesterday, and have introduced them to each other. So far there has been a lot of meowing and the odd pawing from our older cat. The kitten doesnt seem to bothered unless the older cat gets too close.

This is better than I expected, and am hoping that a few days of this, with us playing with them both and comforting our old cat,( and of course bribing with treats). Any other advice?

We are keeping them in separate rooms unless we are around.

Thanks in advance.

Sam

Kittens are usually clueless and keep wanting to play and a relationship with older cats. Older cats normally are very tolerant of kittens. They know they are babies. Older tom are normally great uncles to nurture the kittens.

Let your older cat teach the kitten the rules of the cat kingdom. There will be swats and discipline. Its all a part of learning. As long as there is no blood and full bore attacks Id let them work it out. sound like they are doing just that.

Sounds like it is going great. Depending on the age of the kitten I would just let them be. If kitten is tiny, then supervise as you are doing until he is at least 12 - 16 weeks old.

Thats for the positives.

Our view is it is going well. Older cat just swatting and watching, has the look on his face of "what have you brought this home for"

kitten oblivious.

Keeping them separate unless we are there for now untill tings seem ok. Still unsure of a name tho.
