Do cats get jealous?

My mama spends most of her time with me and has her perching place next me while I work. My male is jumpy and independent so when he does come in I go out of my way to "woo him." Now he will jump up to mama's perch although he never stays long. But when I talk to him sweetly and pet him, mama looks at me with such hurt eyes. I acknowledge her too but she still looks at me forlornly.

I don't know that I call it jealousy, but they are very territorial.

One of mine gets very angry when I'm showing him affection and his brother comes up to get affection too. He'll just walk off sulking and "not speak to me" for a while. So, like Wallycat, I'm not sure if it's jealousy, or if they're just territorial over us (remember, they "own" us, not the other way around ).
