A loss

My cat Strawberry has recently ran away. She went out one morning and never came back. I have been worrying about my only cat left Garfield. I wonder about how this is taking a toll on him. He has been meowing and looking around the house and has been demanding more food than usual. I imagined he would be more ok with this. As a previous cat of my brother had to be given away because of her behavior, and he acted ok about it, maybe a less bond. Is there anything I can do to help my cat garfield cope with the loss?

Did you put up posters of you lost cat? Did you phone shelters? Your cat didn't run away... it is most likely either lost, hurt, trapped somewhere or worse. Someone may have found your cat and turned it over to a shelter or be keeping her if they don't see flyers... cats are usually not too far from home when they're missing. Look under bushes, ask neighbours to check garages/sheds, etc. ... good luck.

As for your remaining kitty, just give him a lot of attention, he's missing his friend. It will take time. Please do not give more food, that won't help anything.

If your cat was caught by animal control they only keep them a short time and then kill them. Ours is 3 days.

I would call around to shelters and animal control, if you haven't already. Id also put out flyers and go house to house in your area giving them flyers with your phone number if Strawberry is spotted.

I would strongly consider microchipping your cats and making them indoor only. I know this has to be heart breaking. Best of luck. I hope you find her.

Our animal control keeps them 5 days if they don't have a collar or tag then evaluates them for adoptability. Bottom line is HURRY, call the city shelters and SPCA today and see if you can find kitty before it's too late.
