Hello! - senior cat, inappropriate peeing

Hello! My name is Meg, I'm 19, from the UK, and have owned cats since the age of 5. I love them to pieces, but currently have problems with a potentially senile cat peeing where she shouldn't, which is why I'm desperately seeking help - my mother's at her wits' end and I'm concerned my Amy will be put down while I'm away at university. Either way though, I'm looking forward to meeting people and chatting about cats!

Hi megxmas, I had this problem pretty recently. How old is your kitty? And I'm assuming that she's been to the vet to rule out any medical issues like a urinary tract infection, or maybe arthritis? Where is she peeing outside the box - any specific places?

Hi Meg,

As spirite has already suggested, a vet visit is likely the best bet if Amy hasn't been in recently. How "senior" is she? Seniors ideally should be seen every 6 months....

Do you know what type of litter is being used? Some cats can become sensitive to certain types, especially as they get older. Crystals can be painful to walk on, for example. Also, what type of litter box do you have? Are they easy for Amy to step into and out? Something with easy access so she doesn't have to jump in or out, and have lots of room to move around in, would be ideal. Placement of these boxes would also be key. A "basement only" box might be too far for her, for example.

Hope this helps you figure out some things. Please let us know how she is doing, too. Good vibes to you, your mom, and your kitty!
