How to know if cat wants to stay or leave?

We're having an unprecedented cold wave here, for the next few days, so I trapped the 10-year old semi-feral that lives on the roofs of the building and she's enjoying the yummy meals but otherwise huddled on the duvet on top of the washing machine and whines if any of the cats come near there. When the cold passes, how will I know if she'd rather go back to her usual place or stay with us? I don't really mind either way, the winters are always mild here, this cold is a one-time thing.

Open window to a fire escape or other outdoor access and see if she will stay or go. If she stays she MUST pay rent - cuddles, kisses or being allowed to be pet will be a good start!

So, who is His Highness Cuchi-Cuchi? I think this is the first I've heard of him!

You either trap her to stay in or give her the choice and you will know. I have indoor/outdoor cats and at times they choose to stay out late and hand at neighbor's yards. When they have the big outdoors to roam, they make their choices.

She hasn't tried to escape through the broken slate of the blinds on the window next to her or when I've opened the door of the apt, but then again I don't know if she realized it was open.... Problem is I haven't seen her use the litter box (next to her), I think she's holding it, and if so I have to take her out of the apt, and I've no idea how! She can't be handled in any way.

(I'll message you about Cuchi

cat_owner, she doesn't move from the top of the washing machine in the laundry room, so I don't know how I'd be able to show her the door...

She's lucky that you're looking out for her. Is she finally feeling safe enough to have moved from her perch on the washing machine?

She changes rooms when I have to do some activity in the one she's in. She found her way to my bed yesterday and spent the day there, looked very cozy.

I still don't know if she's resigned to being trapped or happy here... She doesn't look out the window at all. I have another cat I adopted who never looks out the window, I take it to mean they're happy off the streets...

I'm very anguished, she's too feral for a house cat. I can't put flea treatment on her, can't touch her, and I don't know how to get her back outside. I don't know what to do... Help!

Straysmommy,
She might not be as feral, as you think! She may just be going through the 'Choosing' phase, so to speak...
Keep feeding her and talking to her, she may surprise you!!

The work shack cat, Midnight, who managed to survive for at least three years out here, that I thought might have a problem, becoming indoor only, sure surprised me!
She hasn't tried to door dash once!
She's like..."Been there, done that, not interested in doing it again!"

An everyday family name; A particular name;
And the name but the Cat Himself Knows, and will never confess." T.S. Eliot

Sounds to me like she wants to stay. She'd be driving you crazy if she wanted out, and she'd be trying to find ways to escape. Sounds like she is just scared, trying to make sure she isn't going to be attacked by your other cats.

How sweet of you to give her shelter from the cold.
