Cat pee smell on the dog

I have yet another cat & dog question. I've been smelling cat pee on my dog's back. The cat is a neutered male. I haven't smelled it anywhere in the house - just on the dog's back. What to make of this?

your dog roll in cat pee outside? If there is a unaltered male around it would be a pretty strong smell and dogs love strong smells?

Or some cat is spraying bushes and the dogs is walking under them, brushing the peed on branches across his back?

I thought about that. He does like to roll in smelly stuff. But the ground is covered in snow and I never see cats around here in the winter. His yard is fenced, not that that would keep a cat out, but it seems pretty unlikely. If he goes outside the yard, he's on a leash and I would've seen him do it.

Is your dog big? Any way he could have gotten into the litterbox?

He's the same size as the cat. He's never shown any interest in the litterbox that I've noticed. When I'm at work I keep the cat's room gated so he can't get in there. Is it possible the cat is peeing on him or marking him? I mean, do cats ever do this?

Ewww! Who knows what goes on when I'm away at work? Well, I gave him a bath last night so we'll see when it shows up again.
