Question Neutering question

My baby just got fixed yesterday and he is so unhappy with the cone on his head. As soon I take it off he eats and goes to town on the spot and I have to put the cone back on. Does anyone have any ideas to help my kitty stay out of the cone. He is doing well with no jumping but the licking will be the death of me and my husband.

I have never had a male that had to wear a cone after neutering. However excessive licking can cause issues to the incision. My suggestion would be that while you can supervise him and possibly distract him from licking with play maybe keep it off and only put on while out or sleeping. He may be cleaning just because the incision area smells or feels different. I assume the collar is not staying on for a long period? What did the vet say?

The collar is very uncomfortable, get this one here and choose the size that fits your cat. A friend just had her cat spayed and she uses this one, much more comfortable than the hard collar the vet provided.

I wonder how "claw-proof" an inflatable collar would be. It must be made of something pretty thick.

You could try making a "onesie" for your kitty:

That inflatable collar description says "The inner bladder is protected by a durable and comfortable canvas jacket to resist against bites and scratches." And it does mention which size to get for cats, so I guess they can't pop it.

I've never seen a male wear a cone for standard neutering. Take it off. I'd be unhappy too.

Thank you all for replying. He had been out of his cone about 6 hours now. He has been sleeping on my bed the whole time. I am going to have to put it back on him when I go to bed. The vet told us to keep him from kicking and jumping for 1 week. So that is what we are doing. Wish us luck.

Hey! We're speuter buddies. My two just got respectively spayed and neutered yesterday. My boy hasn't been bothered much by it though I did give him his pain meds this morning to be safe. My girl was pretty out of it last night and wore a onesie to keep her away from her incision site but has perked up a bit today, enough where she won't abide the onesie anymore! Hope your boy feels better soon!
