I need someone to analyse the situation! two cats meeting outside

So here is the story.

My mother and i have been letting Simba outside during the day/night for 10-30 minute sessions so she can explore the outside world. However, my neighbour also has a cat. And that cat is huge, full size. My kitten looks tiny next to it. Anyway today was the first time they both got near eachother with no wall in the way.

Suprisingly the neighbours cat would run away a few meters when Simba would run up to him. I found this kind of odd. But here is another thing. Whenever Simba would look away from the neighbour cat, the neighbours cat would run after little Simba. I dont know if its to play or to kill.. Also whenever a small pole would get in the way of them both the large cat would swipe at simba. There was minor hissing during this time period and both cats got pretty close to eachother with no severe conflict.

It sounds like they were just playing whenever you mentioned that they would run away from each other, but if they're hissing at each other it's difficult to tell. I would try to keep an eye on them when they're together until you think it's safe for your cat to be outside unsupervised

Sounds like they were just playing. If you keep letting him out, word of warning, he is going to want to go out more and more. Which is OK if you are alright with him eventually becoming an indoor/outdoor cat. I know that some people think it's cruel to leave a cat indoors all the time, and that it is best for them to be able to come and go. I think for some cats, that works out, but you always run the risk of them getting hit by a car, attacked by a dog or other animal. My cats are indoor, except for a feral that I care for, and she lives outside, always has, except she does sleep in the garage on cold nights.

I think your kitty was just playing with the neighbor cat. But you will have to worry about other cats that will not be so nice to him. Just be prepared, he may be ok with short visits out now, but he will eventually want to go out more and more, and you will not always be able to see his every move. Once they have a taste of the outdoor life, they will door dash at every opportunity they get.
