Cat harness

I bought an inexpensive $6 harness to try on my cat to see how she reacts to a harness. I didn't want to buy the kitty holster and have her totally freak out! Well, no problem putting it on her. She definitely didn't like it. But she did eat her meals and move around just a little! She clearly did not like having it on. She is not a social cat to begin with and hides pretty much all day. I am not well versed on cats and have heard about how they can urinate outside their litterbox if stressed or unhappy. Well, Meanie has been a phenomenal cat!! I've had her 10 years. No accidents! No fur balls! So I had the harness on her for a whole day. I took it off late at night. She licked herself so much where the harness was, she ended up with fir balls! Ugh!

So I don't know what to do. I have no problem with buying the holster, I don't want to upset her. I don't want her to stop using her litterbox or end up with fur balls! Problem is because she hides so much, it's not so easy to track her down. I don't want to stress her out.

Any suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Just a question: If she is 10 years and has gone this far without a harness/holster, why would you want her to have one now?

Since you're planning on traveling in an RV, it is a good idea to get her used to a harness, but...for only short periods of time, to begin with!
If there's any Special Treats, she likes, use those in conjunction with the harness training, so she starts equating good things with it!
Good Luck!
