Should I Get a 2nd Cat?
My cat is 8 years old. He's very social with people, sweet and tolerant of human affection, but has never really been exposed to other cats since we brought him home at age 3 months. He sees stray cats that we feed on our patio, and sometimes he charges the patio door, and sometimes he just watches. He doesn't do well alone-when we went on a 2 week vacation, we had someone come to check on him every other day, but it just wasn't enough contact and he stress puked a lot. We know better now and will make sure he has someone with him every day if we're gone.
He is a bit spoiled and likes attention, and I'm concerned another cat would upset him by taking attention. But I also think it's possible he might like the company when we are gone on overnight trips. I have no way of knowing how he would react to a new cat(it would be a kitten, I know adult cats take better to kittens) and I don't want to make his life miserable by forcing him to share his home with another animal he doesn't like, or at best, tolerates.
Any ideas or advice? (Unfortunately we can't bring in another kitten temporarily as a test, my husband's allergies react to all cats except Siberians).
