Litter box problem

My cat Tabby is 14 years old. She has a few issues. The most irritating is that she pees on the edge of the box & it gets on the floor. I have tried different things, an extra large & long box, a hooded box, two boxes, etc. I have to put paper towels down around the box & they are wet daily. The odor is bad even though her box is in the basement. Any suggestions?

Hi there,

Some kitties just seem to always pee this way. Mine never did, but others have gotten one of those big plastic storage bins - like 50+ quart size - and cut out an opening on one side. Maybe that would give her enough room to turn around and also be high enough to contain the pee in the box.

I wonder. Could she just prefer to face a certain direction? What if you tried just turning the box around?

In the meantime, try puppy pee pads rather than paper towels. They should soak up any pee that escapes.

Peeing issues are so frustrating. I hope you can get this worked out!

What about a buddha dome cat box? They keep everything inside.

The budda dome cat box sounds like it might work, but she has a covered box now & she will pee in the opening door somehow! She is a challenge!

The thing that distinguishes the dome design is they have to go INSIDE- there is a ramp and the sides are sloped so they can kick the litter around.

They do as they please because they know we are just staff haha!
